Daydreams

I spent the summers of my formative years visiting family in a small Washington canal town west of Seattle. My grandpa’s backyard was a stretch of rocky beach where I’d explore the tidal pools, dig for clams, take the row boat out on the water. I marveled at how life grew on every surface — barnacles and mussels on rocks, lichen on mailboxes, moss in soft clumps on the roof, mushrooms on the forest floor

When I was laid off last year and existing felt prickly, I ached for a soft place to escape to. I turned to my memories of my childhood.

In this compilation of drawings, I meditate on places and moments that felt healing to relive.

Finding Stargirl

Finding Stargirl is a mini character design project based on the novel, Stargirl, by Jerry Spinelli.

In short, the book is about being joyfully and unapologetically yourself. Stargirl is such an inspiring character—she finds the beauty in the mundane, is kind and joyful, strange, boisterous, but also has a melancholy and quiet side. This book is a snapshot of my journey to bring this character to life.
